TAZO Brings You: Adventures in Tea

Meet the people who make, market, drink and enjoy TAZO—and the explorer’s spirit that unites them. Each tells a different story, in their own words, but all agree: Often, the best things in tea, and life, are unexpected.

‘I’m Still Full of Surprises, Y’All!’

Hi y’all!

The other day, I was enjoying a facial, and feeling grateful: This year has been a dream come true. Baring my life for all to see on my show, and making the Camp TAZO video—where I sat in a canoe for the first time in my life, hiked in high heels, and learned to throw an axe without breaking a nail—pulled me way outside my comfort zone.

With my face all over the place, you’d think you know everything about me. Truth is, we all are full of surprises, and, in that spirit of discovery, here are five things you probably don’t know about me.

1.    I’m the original homebody. People think I’m the same at home as in front of the camera, strutting in my Christian Louboutin pumps. Truth is, I love a quiet night at home, all cozy in my Cookie Monster or fleece footsie PJ’s, watching Netflix on the couch, with a homemade Margarita on the rocks.

2.    I keep a journal. Now, it’s not a conventional diary with lock and key, y’all. But I have been journaling as long as I can remember. I write little notes to myself about what is happening in my life, and I like to go back and read it later, and remind myself of how much I have grown as a person.

3.    I like country music. I grew up on it—Reba McEntire, Faith Hill, Shania Twain. When I first started doing drag, that is what I thought I would be—a drag queen country star.

4.    My favorite movie is The Wizard of Oz. I always related to Dorothy, how she traveled that yellow brick road, learned from the people she met, and overcame obstacles along the way. When she pulled back the curtain and met the Wizard, she learned she was the one who had the power all along. I think, for me, drag was that Wizard.

5.    The one thing I want to do before I am 40. I am 38 now, and I really want to meet Ellen DeGeneres before I am 40. I want to shake her hand and say thank you for inspiring the LGBTQ community. She stands for everything I believe in, and she loves dancing and children like I do. So I am just putting that out there in the universe.

Well, that’s it for now, y’all. See you at Camp TAZO!
